Many clients use our expertise in database systems to publish innovatively to the web.
Netimpact Publishing's latest database to web project is for the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). The project developed easy to use browser-based data-entry forms on CASA's intranet to add administrative records into a central database.
The data-entry system incorporates lightweight workflow management through the presentation of a simple wizard-style user interface.
Two complementary browsable views of the database can then be delivered live from the one source: (1) a complete view to the intranet, for use by internal staff; and (2) a more restrictive view to the web site, for use by members of the public.
The result is a significant reduction in the costs of management of the database, increased flexibility in publication options, and improved client access to up-to-date information.
Ayearout.com is a portal website for young people who are interested in taking a "year off" from their lives. The site contains a dynamic list of all the gap year organisations in the world and allows visitors to narrow down on what is most suitable for them.
If a person wants to go to Africa but they are not sure what kind of activity they are interested in, they can click Africa from the home page. A list of organisations and activities for Africa are then displayed.
Here, visitors are able to narrow down their search further. For example, they might choose "expeditions" from the drop down list.
Now that the list of organisations has been reduced to three, people can obtain a summary by clicking on the organisation name.
From here, people can visit the organisation's website to obtain more information or get in direct contact.
This project demonstrates the advantage of combining a database query system with an internet front end to enable dynamic functionality. The person browsing is not confronted with a meaningless list, but is able to drill down to specific information in an intuitive way. From the clients perspective, the database can easily be updated then re-loaded to the Internet.
Netimpact developed the original Funding and Disclosure website for the Australian Electoral Commission. Australian legislation requires that all donations to political parties over $1,500 must be documented by Donors and Parties in an Annual return sent to the AEC. Traditionally the information in the Returns was managed in a paper form, which made searching for a particular piece of information difficult. Digitising this information has made access and retrieval of information easier.
We create innovative information systems for the Intranet and Internet. The principal information desktop system produced by Netimpact Publishing is the Call Centre Information System (CCIS). Organisations may typically require an Information desktop system when they need to co-locate a variety of content (print, spreadsheet, mainframe) behind a uniform and consistent interface, for efficient information retrieval.
